Just recently the computer has been going real slow, as it's busy doing something else.= That proceeded that port going out and= it's a bit faster now but not as fast as before, still seeming to be doing something so I'm wondering if the other front USB is going out. That's why I'm thinking of replacing it

USB is up to version 3 now (the horizontal piece of plastic inside is blue instead of black), so you should always use those if your external device (and USB cord) is new enough.=

It doesn't seem like a new PC is necessary, but you can pull out your old hard drive and make it an external drive by buying the housing for it.= I prefer Windows 7, too.

Good idea, Doug.

Anyhow, I'm looking on EBAY= and found this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/304041042675?hash=3Ditem46ca4222f3%3Ag%3AZOEAAOSwnTVj7xLH&amdata=3Denc%3AAQAHAAAAwHBSclDB8adEgSfd7Jje9p7ziQRFCmmpWbsRxzI3DRaAVo2USjDm7qxTj5PpGSVAnQYs8ZjMNXjA52%2BCMf%2BzRbFLhspvMf%2BuhUTpnYerXVC6I383ifF%2Brn3PaC6d7fgp9gIbBRpSkPS892j1dLOrnXd%2FQLFC1QrkkcuoidCaMGorCTI2FOEU6nZ%2BNuJwWgzEG9PgA8lHKnTEMQmIyr9vauXqZdxwLlZmbWlda0wEjzMKpF%2FvaANHsBPZdHJ4v%2BND%2FA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABlBMUJzT0NfZYQ&LH_ItemCondition=3D2000%7C2010%7C2020%7C2030

I chose these options: Win 10 Pro, 16 GB memory, 4 TB HD, DVD burner & HDMI drive

for $212.64

I see 4 USB ports in front. It doesn't say if there's more in the back. I like lots of USB ports.

Maybe you can get a new one but use the old hard drive?

Subject: bad USB on desktop

Not long ago, my desktop= wouldn't start up. All I saw was a little white dot= on the screen. I decided to unnplug my two external drives and it started up (both were plugged into USB ports on the front). I plugged one external back in and it= worked but not the other one. I figured that one external died so I backed it up.

Well, when I had the two plugged in, the new one quit working, just showing that same little dot in the same place on the monitor. I guessed that maybe the USB port it was plugged into was bad so I plugged the external into a USB on the back. Lo and behold, it works.

So, it seems that one of the front USB ports is bad. Is that known to happen?

Anyhow, I guess that other "bad" external would probably work if plugged into the back.

Any suggestions? Replace it before it gets worse? I like that it's Win 7 and all you can get these days is Win 10 or 11 (if you want Win).

Thanks,

Steve -- 1585490_1683044565.1678496740458
